Most people who frequent our shores in the Lake District have been on a walk, and who could blame them? We’ve got woods, lakes, rolling hills, big mountains, secluded glens, wildlife…not to mention delicious pit stops!
If you’re planning a visit soon and are stuck for ideas here’s two walks that we like to do:
Ambleside to Troutbeck and back, via Wansfell
Did you know? The National Trust recently found the tallest tree in Cumbria AND this walk passes right by it. At 57.8 metres the grand fir’s top branches are higher than Nelson’s Column. The great thing about this walk is that you can start and finish in Ambleside so if you’re staying with us there’s no need to drive anywhere!
Buttermere to Rannerdale
Ah beautiful Buttermere, we love this valley with its rounded hills and abundance of greenry. The valley is thought to be where Norman warriors were defeated in battle! For the National Trust car park grid ref use: NY172172
