Ambleside & The Lakes

The Lake District is one of the most beautiful locations in England. Visitors from all over the world travel here to experience the abundance of lakes, forests and mountains that cover the landscape and feel the buzzing atmosphere, rich in culture and history. This really is the place to be.

The View

No other inn can boast our lakeside setting, looking out over the largest natural lake in England.  We have a great central location, which means access around The Lakes is easy. Not only is the water host to an array of glorious boats and water steamers; it is also teaming with wildlife. This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer.

  • A Day Out

Why not bask in some local culture and visit Hill Top near Sawrey, Hawkshead – An idyllic 17th century farm house where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her stories. Hill Top was left to the trust after her death and has remained in its original state ever since.

It is impossible to explain how great The Lake District is. We are situated on the main route to Ambleside from Windermere, and just a 10 minute walk into the heart of Ambleside town centre so there is plenty to do in the local area and endless culture to be absorbed in.

Wateredge is just a short stroll from Waterhead Pier from where you can take a cruise on the Lake. Choose from a short cruise to enjoy the views or spend the day and stop off at the various attractions around the lake. There are many nearby attractions & activities to keep everyone happy, be it walking, hiking, cycling or shopping!

Find Us

We’re very easy to find, situated just off the A591 along Borrans Road on the water front at Waterhead Bay. From the South; stay on the A591 past Kendal, Windermere and on to Ambleside. Turn left at the traffic lights at Waterhead and Wateredge Inn is on your left at the end of the promenade.  From the North; leave the M6 from Penrith (J40) to join the A66 to Keswick, then follow the A591 through to Ambleside.

The nearest train station is Windermere, just 4 miles away. The 555 bus runs direct from Windermere to Ambleside.
