The festive season is just around the corner and after the Christmas chaos it’s time for New Year celebrations and 2018 resolutions!
If, like us, you struggle to stick to your resolutions past January then let us help with some ideas on how a trip to the Lake District can tick off three of the most popular all in one go; exercise more, learn a new skill or hobby and spend more time with friends and family. Here are a few things on offer right on our doorstep.
Walking or running
People come from all over the world to explore the Lake District and admire the spectacular views. There is a never ending supply of fells, trail, woodland and shoreline routes whether you want a gentle amble or something a bit more adventurous. There are even guided walks and now over 40 ‘Miles without Stiles’ walks suitable for people with limited mobility or those that might be in a wheelchair or pushchair. There is also a variety of walking events and challenges and if you like a bit of competition there are fell, trail and road races to have a go at most weekends.
Learn something new on a navigation course, there is everything from basic navigation to more complex courses that take place out in the hills or family sessions to get the kids involved.
The Lakes are renowned as one of the best playgrounds for two wheels whether on a mountain bike, cross bike or road bike. You can follow one of the many classic cycling routes, either on or off road, or make up your own day out. There are country lanes, cycleways, bridleways and forest trails, flat routes, lumpy routes and plenty of huge hills. There are even free events and guided rides for all abilities including family friendly and many bike challenges and sportives take place in the area.
Want to brush up on your mountain bike skills or just starting out and want to gain some confidence then why not take a course. You can join a group, get your friends together and hire an instructor or even have a day of one-to-one training.
Being the Lake District we have plenty of water which means you can do everything from rowing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, open water swimming or just go for a paddle (when the water warms up!)
Try something adventurous and have a go at ghyll scrambling. Scramble along rocks, dip in and out of the water, climb up waterfalls then plunge down rock chutes and into deep water pools.
Whatever your resolutions for 2018 make sure you come and visit us at Wateredge Inn and share this beautiful area and all the adventure and fun it has to offer.
Have a great Christmas and happy New Year, we look forward to welcoming you in 2018 keeping up with those resolutions!
